Connect Google Search Console & Analytics
Give RankRight read access to your clients' Search Console and Google Analytics 4 data, so keyword trends, traffic snapshots and growth reports fill in on their own. One Google sign-in, then pick a property per client.
- Read-only use
- One account, many clients
- Disconnect anytime
Before you start
Five minutes, and you'll need:
- The right role. Owners, SEO editors and web builders can connect Google. Viewers can't.
- A Google account with access to the client's Search Console property and, if you want traffic data, its GA4 property. Any access level in Search Console works, as long as the property shows up when that account signs in.
- The client already added to RankRight.
Agencies usually connect one shared Google login that has been added to all their clients' properties. That way you only sign in once and every client can use it.
Connect Google in four steps
Do this from the first client you want to connect. Later clients take seconds.
1 Open the client's Credentials tab ~30 sec
- Go to Clients and choose the client.
- Click the Credentials tab at the end of the client's tab bar.
- Find the panel called Google — connected accounts at the top.
You can also get there from the client's Overview: the Integrations panel has an Edit credentials button.
2 Sign in with Google and allow access ~1 min
- Click Connect Google account. Google's sign-in page opens.
- Choose the Google account that can see this client's properties. Double-check it if you're signed into several.
- On Google's consent screen, tick every box: RankRight needs both Search Console and Analytics.
- Google sends you back to the Credentials tab with a green message: Connected Google account …
If you untick a box, RankRight shows "The Search Console permission was not granted — connect again and tick every box." Just click Connect Google account again.
3 Pick the Search Console and GA4 properties ~1 min
Scroll to the Google Search Console + Analytics panel. When you connected from this client's page, its Google account is already set to the new connection.
- Search Console property: click the box and pick from the properties the account can see.
- GA4 property: pick the client's property from the list. It saves the numeric property ID.
- Click Save credentials at the bottom of the page.
| Field | Looks like | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Search Console property | sc-domain:example.com or https://example.com/ | Prefer the sc-domain: (Domain) property. It covers www and non-www. |
| GA4 property | 123456789 | Not the G-XXXXXXX tag. RankRight won't save a G- ID. |
4 Check the data is flowing ~2 min
Open the client's SEO tab and expand Tools:
- GSC capture takes a snapshot of the client's Search Console keywords, so you can track climbers and faders over time. The first run sets the baseline.
- GA4 capture pulls sessions, users, key events and the top page from Google Analytics.
- Under Reports & audits, GSC growth report compares the last 28 days with the 28 before. GSC consolidated report compares last month, the month before and the same month last year. Both are Word documents with an AI-written analysis.
These buttons only appear once a property is saved. If you don't see them, go back to step 3.
One Google account, many clients
Connections belong to your organization, not to a single client.
Reuse the same account
On the next client's Credentials tab, choose the account from the Google account dropdown, pick the properties and save. No new sign-in.
Connect another account
If a client's properties sit under a different Google login, click Connect another Google account from that client's Credentials tab.
See every connection
The Google — connected accounts table lists each account, what it can access, and whether it's ✓ active.
Troubleshooting
The fixes for what usually goes wrong.
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The property isn't in the list | The connected account can't see it. Have the property owner add that Google account in Search Console (Settings → Users and permissions) or GA4 (Admin → Property access management), then reload the Credentials tab. Or connect the Google account that already has access. |
| "Could not list properties for the selected account" | Google refused the request for that account. Disconnect it and connect again, then try the list once more. You can still type the property by hand. |
| I connected the wrong Google account | Click Connect another Google account and sign in with the right one, then pick it in the Google account dropdown. Disconnect the wrong one if nobody uses it. |
| "…permission was not granted — connect again and tick every box" | A box was unticked on Google's consent screen. Connect again and allow both Search Console and Analytics. |
| "Google did not return a refresh token" | Remove RankRight at myaccount.google.com/permissions for that Google account, then connect again. |
| An account shows ✗ revoked | Google stopped accepting the connection, often because a password changed or access was removed in the Google account. Connect the same account again. It updates in place and clients keep their settings. |
| "GA4 property id must be the numeric property id" | You pasted a G- measurement ID. Use the number from Admin → Property settings instead. |
